This group covers the non-Asian restaurants, cafes, bars and food businesses that also appear in a mixed-cuisine food scene, including American diners, pizza, Mexican food, burgers, steakhouses and bakeries. Standard US restaurant norms apply: lunch and dinner service with a quieter stretch between, cards and tap-to-pay accepted almost everywhere, and a tip of 15-20% customary for table service. Fast food and quick-service counters expect payment up front and tipping is optional. Bars check ID for anyone who looks under 30, and the drinking age is 21 nationwide. Many restaurants in this group take reservations online through third-party platforms, while casual and fast-food spots are walk-in only. Sales tax is added at the register on top of the menu price and varies by city and state, so the final total is usually a few percent higher than the posted prices suggest.

Newark is in New Jersey, in the Northeast, where four distinct seasons shape local life: hot humid summers, snowy winters that can close businesses for a day, and a dense pattern of towns where walking, transit and street parking all matter. Getting around Newark is easiest by car; street parking is metered in busy downtown areas, and most suburban businesses have their own lot. Ride-share apps such as Uber and Lyft operate across New Jersey's larger cities, and public transit varies from extensive to minimal.

Always love stopping by for a shake or a quick bite to eat! I especially love the pistachio ice cream. Everything is top notch, from the owners and staff to the food and drinks. I also always enjoy attending the open mic night they host on the first Saturday of every month. Highly recommend!

I really adore Qaalis. The staff is always very kind and attentive. No other cafe in Newark matches the vibes in Qaalis (trust me, I have looked). I may have abused their tolerance for laptop campers a bit during finals season but the staff was very kind about it. Additionally, Qaalis is a true community resource. Iβve witnessed the shop host learning seminars on the history of coffee and the significance of the cultural imagery amongst the decor. Iβm so glad this wonderful small business exists. As an aside, I hope the rice pudding makes a reappearance on the menu.

The hospitality here is truly top-tier. After a minor mix-up left me waiting 15 minutes for my karak chai, the owners personally stepped in and gifted me a complimentary tres leches. Not only was the chai exceptional, but the cake was easily one of the best I've ever had. Itβs clear the management deeply values their guests. And I will be visiting often with my laptop because it is a cafe where you can get some productive work done easily. Thank you for the great hospitality!

This was hands down one of my best experiences at a cafe. I went with a group of 9 frequent cafe-goers, and everything ordered was 10/10! My favorite was their specialty mocha pistachio latteβ it was almost like a dubai chocolate drink, perfectly balanced and not overly sweet, and they use pistachio butter for the rich flavor. Though all their baklava and baked items were perfect, I especially loved the cranberry muffin. I plan to come back to try their bites, as everything is halal and the menu (and the place itself!) looks spectacular.
